TOMORROW!

I can’t believe the Swap is already upon us! The clothing madness starts tomorrow at 10am at the Portland Flea For All on Kennebec street. It’s $5 if you bring a bag of clothes, and $10 if you don’t, but it’s not too late to get in for free! Just bring your bag of clean, undamaged clothes, shoes, and accessories to the Flea For All before 2pm today to get free admission to clothes paradise.

Do I sound extra-excited? It’s because I’ve gotten some of my favorite outfits at past Swaps. Here’s me about to get married in a white leather skirt I got at the first Swap:

At the second Swap, I got the perfect stretch velvet dress. The tag says Contempo Casuals, which is a store I dragged my mother to many times in middle school. She never would have let me buy this dress, with its low neckline and even lower back. It’s got the perfect fishtail hem, and people always ask me where I got it.

sadly, in the only other picture of me wearing this dress, I have vampire fangs

Oh yeah, plus all proceeds and left over clothing for this swap will be donated directly to Goodwill of Northern New England. You’ll get to look fabulous while supporting a great cause. So run right over to 125 Kennebec Street to drop off your bag for free admission, and join us tomorrow at 10 for our best Swap yet!

The Incredible Shrinking Woman

My weight has always been a little unstable. In college, it all started when I packed on the freshman 15 (and by 15, I mean 30). But then post-college I peeled it all off on Weight Watchers (vowing never to do it again). But of course, a few years of checked out snacking and TiVo, I crept back up again… Throw a failed marriage and a blown out thyroid in there, you’ve got a good 15 years of ping ponging between single and double digit pants.

Up until very recently, I’d been in double digit town for over 3 years, and had pretty much let go of any hope of ever fitting back into my “skinny clothes”. In fact, I brought all but my very favorite “skinny” items to the last SWAPmaine, and exchanged them beautiful things that actually fit me. Finally comfortable in my curvier body, I focused on building a fantastic wardrobe for the body I had, instead of punishing myself for the body I might never have again.

And then, I got sick. Continue reading

Cleaning Out My (Semi) Closet

When I moved into my new digs I discovered (much to my dismay) that there was no working closet. Though this was no deal breaker for my boyfriend, I begrudgingly moved in, high on the prospects of what I could with all the built-in shelves and high ceilings. When reality set in and I was unpacking dresses from drawers, I could no longer hack it. Until my boyfriend saved the day.

Using some lead piping, he crafted me my very own closet, complete with shoe storage below. He even placed it in my most beloved part of the bedroom – right by the window seat where I could get dressed every morning. In the words of Salt-N-Peppa … whatta man!

But now that my closet has to be kept in plain view, I am determined to streamline my collection. Which explains the 5 bags of clothes currently in my car trunk that I will be bringing to the swap. What’s your closet like? Are you cleaning it out for our big SWAP?
